Power Hour film sCREENING- Counted Out
Our first STEM Power Hour of 2026 was so much fun! 📽️🍿 On 2/26, we host a screening of the new documentary Counted Out which explores how, in the 21st century, fueled by technology, data, and algorithms, math determines who has the power to shape our world. We were honored to host Dean Joseph Bull of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, Portland State University, Megan Simpson, the math and ELD teacher at Stoller Middle School in Beaverton School District, and Stephanie Salomone, the new Executive Director at Oregon STEM! Panelists reflected on the film, their own math journey, and took questions from the audience. We explored—to name just a few topics—what discussions are happening (or need to happen) for meaningful math inquiry to be built into the standard learning experience for students? What kinds of support from districts, community partners, industry, or higher education would help you continue or strengthen that work? And what learning experiences help students come into university-level mathematics feeling prepared and equipped with the skills they need to succeed, and how might K–12 teachers and districts innovatively support those experiences in equitable and authentic ways? Thank you to our panelists and attendees!
🙏 We appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedules to join us for some networking and fun. 🎉For more information on Counted Out, visit them at their website here: https://lnkd.in/e7yRBMrr
